This is an instructional league with an 8 week duration for compound and recurve archers of all ages. JOAD is open to any youth archer aged 8 to 20 and is designed to grow with the youth archer. Introductory JOAD classes teach the fundamentals of proper shooting form; as the young archer develops, they will learn more advanced techniques. Achievement awards are based on specific scores at specific distances while shooting 30 arrows.

Saturday Archers offers basic and intermediate archery instructions for beginning adults and children in our indoor target range. FITA/NFAA/3D targets will be used. All equipment is provided. Classes are on a “come as you can” basis. Please park in main lot only. Children under 16 require a parent or guardian to be present during the lessons. Please arrive 10 minutes early so we can get you setup with the right bow and arrows. This allows you and everyone else to get more shooting in. It is easier to shoot if you do not wear loose fitting clothing (e.g. hoodies, sweatshirts, etc.)

Join Nationally certified interpretive guide, retired Fire department paramedic, and Level 4 certified NTS USA archery coach Nick DiCresce in these unique outdoor education classes - Hunger Games Camp or Survival in the Northwoods.
You will learn some wilderness first aid.
How to safely prepare water for drinking.
Plants you can gather as wild edibles and for medicinal uses, along with what plants to avoid.
How to safely start a fire without matches.
How to make cordage (rope from plants) along with some very usefully knots to know.
You will also learn how to Identify animal tracks and scat! Not just pictures from a book but some actually collected specimens! Which will help you to put together a plan to increase your chances to successfully harvest an animal for food, and what skill to use to increase your chances - like a simple snare and a throw stick.
You will also learn to shoot one of the oldest and true tools that propelled man’s survival here on Earth...the Bow and Arrow!
You will learn all of this from a Level 4 NTS USA Archery Certified Coach and instructor Nick DiCresce, a hunter who has harvested animals from 4 of the 7 continents. You will get to shoot a bow at a standard target and then once you have honed your skills you will get a chance to do a mock hunt with some life size 3D animals in a natural setting! And lastly, some very helpful gear to always take with you afield to help you be prepared!
5 day Summer Camp - The Hunger Games

Northwoods Survival Skills Class

One-week day camps in archery are offered each summer in conjunction with the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield, for children ages 6 thru 16. The camps run from approximately 9AM until 2:30PM, Monday thru Friday. The camps focus on basic archery instruction in a target archery setting with emphasis on safety and archery etiquette. All equipment is provided.
Group Instructions Detroit Archers offers instructions for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and approved groups after 5PM on Saturdays if the club is available. Use the contact form for more information and availability. Please refer to our online calendar in advance to see if your date is available. Bring your request to any scheduled board meeting (see calendar for upcoming dates/times) prior to the date you are inquiring about. Please do so several weeks in advance if possible.
